Winter is starting to wind down for most of the country, which means that more and more activity will be taking place for those with patios and decks. The new year could mean offering a new look that shows off your particular style or one that’s more practical and figures to stand out for an extended period of time.
Listed below are some ideas that you might want to consider when it comes to your individual patio or deck:
Re-Staining
The outdoor atmosphere is what makes a deck or patio so appealing, yet that ambience tends to diminish if you happen have one with a wooden motif. That’s because all of the different weather conditions that this particular area endures over the course of a year can obviously take a toll on the wood. However, applying some wood stain can add some vibrancy to the area again and often make it look as good as new.
A More Natural Appearance
A patio or deck where wood is the overriding feature is one that can offer bright colors or darker hues, depending on what the homeowner is seeking. Those looking for a simple approach lean more toward paint stain as their selection. With paint stain, you don’t need any primer and performing this job is something that should only require one coat. That basic fact means that it will be less expensive than regular paint, plus it won’t chip or peel.
An Extended Deck
There’s nothing that absolutely dictates that your deck has to be attached to the house. Some people prefer placing it a fair distance from the house, with a walkway stretching from the house to the deck. All of that extra space will mean more area to cover with deck stain, but once that job’s completed, the look will draw raves from your guests.
A Multi-Level Look
Since some homes have their surrounding terrain much higher or lower than the location of the home, it might dissuade some homeowners from installing a deck. That would be a missed opportunity, though it makes sense to take into consideration areas that may be more vulnerable to moisture by applying some deck stain to those areas that might otherwise be neglected.
Built-In Seating
Working with the surrounding area can allow for a patio that’s constructed with seating that can also be used as a planter. In addition, other areas can work in a garden area that offers an image of being amid nature, which is the type of relaxing idea that evokes what this should represent.
New Patio Furniture
Many homeowners may be inclined to simply bring out chairs made for card tables and use them as part of a patio. A more imaginative concept might take into consideration an investment in wooden furniture, something that can give off a rustic appearance that may be more appealing. Taking precautions beforehand in this case involves applying wood stain to these new additions.

Great question, Dale! The great thing about Ready Seal is that there are no temperature restrictions. So you can apply in any season, even in full sunlight if you wish. The main thing to remember is that the wood needs to be clean and free from any previous coatings, and most importantly, must be dry before application. 12% or less, use a moisture meter to determine (these can be purchased inexpensively at any hardware store). After application, your wood will be sealed and protected from the elements immediately. It can rain shortly after you finish, and the water won’t ruin all your work. We’d love to earn your business, so please feel free to call our office during normal business hours if you have more questions and/or to get additional information and support on how to best prepare your wood before application. 1.888.STAIN.4.U or 972-434-2028.
